Sesriem canyon formed some 2 million years ago as the then mighty Tsauchab River cut its way through the sedimentary rocks creating a gorge with a depth of between 30 and 40m. It is a popular place to visit when traveling to Sossusvlei, one of the top destinations for a safari in Nambia.

It was carved out of sedimentary rock by the Tsachaub River in a process that started over 2 million years ago. The pools at the bottom of this trench are replenished by the rains and still hold water almost year-round today.

The main gate known as “Sesriem Gate” which is accessed from the main road D826 and C27, opens at sunrise and closes at sunset.

Swakopmund is a beach resort and characterized by German colonial architecture. The city was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa. Buildings in the city include the Altes Gefängnis, a prison designed by Heinrich Bause in 1909.

Generally, they are in excellent condition. Most of the roads and towns are well signposted. Major roads are tarred; the rest are gravel.

“Timeless” is the word most often used to describe Swakopmund, a historic German colonial era town that is a favourite holiday destination for both locals and visitors.

Swakopmund is a perfect base for exploring the coast, from taking boat and kayaking trips from Walvis Bay to spot the abundant marine life of the Atlantic Ocean to going birdwatching at Sandwich Harbour further south.

The site forms a coherent, extensive and high-quality record of ritual practices relating to hunter-gatherer communities in this part of southern Africa over at least 2,000 years, and eloquently illustrates the links between the ritual and economic practices of hunter-gatherers.

Human race has always relied on its past to build the present and construct its future. Generations have lived before us and have shaped the world we reside in. It is important to protect our heritage as it adds character and distinctiveness to the place, region or community and hence provides a sense of identity.

The Himba people mainly live in the North-West part of Namibia. Please remember when you visit the tribes to show respect to them and their cultures and views. They are also changing to the environment they live in today, so do not be surprised to see them in modern clothing or occasionally clutching a cell phone! Please also be aware that whilst we endeavour to arrange walks and meetings with the tribes, they choose what and when they wish to do things, which can occasionally be out of our control.

The breath-taking mountainous region of Damaraland is home to an assortment of desert-adapted wildlife such as elephant, rhino, zebra and lion, which eke out an existence in this near-barren landscape.
